I mean, the amount of spent grain is just amazing. These little guys are a super easy way to use it up.
I made multiple batches of them.
They might be great for outdoor adventures..
- 3 cups spent grains, dried out
- 2 cups quick cooking oats
- 1/2 cup mixed nuts
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
Dry out the sparge, or spent grain, whether it is fresh or frozen. Spread out the grains on baking sheets, put into a 250 degree oven for three or four hours or so, turning every so often. Then mix in with oats and nuts.
In a saucepan, melt the butter, salt, honey, syrup and peanut butter, bringing to a simmer for 5 minutes until thickened. Pour over the dry ingredients and press into a greased baking dish. Cook at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Let cool completely. Like for hours. Otherwise, they will fall apart. Completely cool. Trust me.
Then cut into squares.
And take them hiking.
